Papillion La Vista Optimist pledge $35,000

The Papillion-La Vista Optimist Club is expanding their longtime support of Papillion La Vista students. The club has pledged $35,000 to the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation to provide opportunities to students at every grade level, with support directed specifically to mentoring, Career Academies, the Student Emergency Fund, Graduate Safe, and Post Prom. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to graduating seniors. Additional funds will be directed to a Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation endowment, ensuring these programs for student success last forever.

By providing hope and positive vision, the Papillion-La Vista Optimist Club’s dedication to “bringing out the best in kids” is truly represented in their partnership with the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation. It is clear that the Optimist Club has the best interest of our students in mind, and their support of Papillion La Vista Community Schools is a reflection of that interest.

“The Optimist Club has been a great partner in education. This pledge takes that commitment to Papillion La Vista students to the next level, providing and enhancing opportunities for excellence,” says John Erickson, Executive Director of the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation.

In 2014, the Optimist Club was named a Papillion La Vista Schools Hall of Fame Community Booster for their longtime support of students. They have been an exceptional partner of La Vista West Elementary School for more than a decade. Always eager to get involved, the Optimists have helped serve at the annual Family Feast, worked at the school carnival, and pledged thousands of dollars toward the playground fund. The Optimists have even invited the elementary Student Council to join them in volunteer opportunities, modeling for the students what it means to be a volunteer in our community. The Optimist Club has also supported the IDEAL Legacy Project, Safe Halloween at Papillion-La Vista South and the La Vista Community Center, Teacher Appreciation, the La Vista Junior High Behavior Program, TeamMates, and Battle of the Books at all five district Title I Elementary Schools.

“We thank the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation for all that they do, and on behalf of the Optimists, we think that this pledge reinforces the commitment of both organizations to the young people of our communities,” says Fred Uhe. Mr. Uhe is the current President of the Papillion-La Vista Optimist Club. The chapter currently has 20 dedicated volunteers.
