Many post-secondary education institutions offer online classes to students. A new program for high school students in Papillion La Vista Community Schools gives students the opportunity to try this style of learning while they still have in-person support from teachers if needed. Additionally, online classes give students some flexibility in their schedule, allowing them to take classes with limited availability, or accommodate athletic and work schedules.

It gives students the opportunity to experience learning in an online format. This gives them the opportunity to do so in a structured environment, says Anna Eckhoff, instructional technology consultant for the school district.

Funding from the Papillion-La Vista Schools Foundation allowed the school district to create and implement this new program. Five classes are offered in this pilot semester for online learning: American government, physical science, psychology, astronomy, and issues and geography in the modern world.
