As Papillion-La Vista High School's first swimming coach, Lynn Weaver founded a program that to this day develops students' character and instills the self-discipline required to excel in swimming and in life. A former student athlete notes that through swimming, she learned about dedication, concentration, discipline, friendship and love. Another says the work ethic Coach Weaver instilled continues to serve as the foundation by which he is able to progress and expand.

When the District opened a second high school in 2003, Coach Weaver seamlessly integrated the programs to create the combined Papillion-La Vista and Papillion-La Vista South aquatic programs. Each year, this is one Nebraska's top programs due to the foundation of hard work and attention to detail laid by Coach Weaver. He coached nearly 40 individual Nebraska high school state champion swimmers and divers. His 2001, 2002, and 2004 boys teams finished second in state, with the 2003 boys team claiming the only Nebraska State Swimming and Diving Championship for Papillion-La Vista High School. His swimmers have been offered college swimming scholarships to schools including University of Minnesota, Wyoming, South Dakota, Eastern Michigan University, and Truman University.

Coach Weaver remains a positive influence not just on Papillion-La Vista swimmers and divers, but those involved in the sport statewide. In addition to leading the aquatics program, Coach Weaver taught industrial technology at PLHS before retiring from the District after 38 years. Coach Weaver continues to run the Sarpy County Swim Club he helped found more than 20 years ago, but makes plenty of time for his wife, grandkids, and golf during his retirement.
