Dr. Mellanee Kvasnicka served Papillion-La Vista South High School and the entire Papillion-La Vista School District with endless hours of teaching and leadership for 10 years before her retirement. Her work truly defines the commitment to excellence and service to students that define Papillion-La Vista South.

A passionate and devoted educator, Dr. Kvasnicka spent thirty-three years as an English teacher and department chair at Omaha South High School before moving to lead the English department at Papillion-La Vista South. Her career has touched the lives and inspired thousands of students. She received the Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award in 1988, was recognized as Nebraska State Teacher of the Year in 2008, and named Papillion-La Vista South Teacher of the Year in 2013. She is recognized as one of the nation's leading experts on the writings of Willa Cather.

Dr. Kvasnicka was instrumental in the writing and development of the Papillion-La Vista School District's English curriculum for grades 9-12, so for all Monarchs and Titans, whether or not they sat in her classroom, all students in the past 10-plus year have been impacted by Dr. Kvasnicka. She served as a mentor for fellow educators, helping them grow in their skills and knowledge as teachers.

Dr. Kvasnicka has a thirst for knowledge and passed that love on to her students. She encouraged her students to think, and they left her classroom confident that they could perform at the next level. A student writes, "all I can hope for is the chance to make a difference with my life the way Dr. Kvasnicka has with her...She is an educator, in the boldest, purest sense of the word, and is nothing short of an inspiration."
